Winter Pattern Mixing
Do you ever create an outfit around a pair of shoes? The other weekend, as I was getting dressed to walk around SF on a Saturday night, I really wanted to wear this pair of jacquard flats that I had recently bought. I didn’t want to wear them with something obvious like jeans or my usual light color trousers. Then a floral dress I haven’t worn in a really long time caught my eye. I ended up really loving these two patterns together!
Which got me thinking more about unexpected winter pattern mixing. An eclectic and more maximalist approach to this seasons dressings. As a former style minimalist (with still slow fashion principles), I love the fun mix of various florals, plaids, embroideries, and polka dots meshed together.
Another great perk of pattern mixing? There is the tiniest almost non-existent chance someone will be wearing the same outfit. For winter styling, add a pair of white or colorful tights, a solid scarf with a simple long wool coat. Then a purse to match your scarf or coat to keep the focus on your patterns.
See below for some dresses and flats I could see mixed together. All with tights or socks for colder temps and even a nice black turtleneck under some of these dresses.
Some combination ideas: these pants with these embroidered flats, this pink dress with these lace pattern flats, and this pattern dress with the perfect polka dot heel. So many options!
