How to Style Light Color Pants for Winter

Simple trousers in winter white or tan hues are the perfect way to mix up your winter outfits. Especially in a heavy canvas or thick corduroy. I tend to usually stick to classic blacks, browns, and dark blues this time of year however, so far this fall and now entering winter, light pants have been a go-to for getting dressed.

They’re such a fun deviation from your typical winter outfit. I find it really easy to get into a habit of reaching for all my black clothes when it’s cold. So, finding more ways to style a white trouser has helped getting dressed this time of year feel less repetitive.

I’ve been playing around with a pair of white corduroy pants for different work, weekend, dinner, and even Thanksgiving travel outfits. Unfortunately they’re sold out but these ones from Alex Mill are super similar! Everlane still makes some of my favorite trousers I’ve been wearing for years at really good prices. I love this similar pair of white corduroy pants along with this sandstone canvas pair and these too!

Below are some ideas for winter white pants I’ve been wearing lately that I hope you can find some inspiration from!

Brown Sweaters & Leather Coats

Sweater is old Madewell but this is similar, Madewell corduory blazer (similar here and here), Nisolo woven mules
Banana Republic leather coat (mine is sold out but love this similar one in black), Old Caron Callahan loafers (similar here and here)

This combo has been my most repeated look with these pants. I wore the outfit on the left on my flights for Thanksgiving. Added socks for more warmth and a plaid scarf too for the colder Texas temps. I’ve also been in more of a habit lately to match my shoes with my tops. I really like how the darker brown compliments the light pants!

Bright Sweaters & Tall Boots

J.Crew sweater (I bought this sweater in blue and coral!), Thrifted scarf, APC boots (suede version)

A bright sweater paired with some classic tall leather boots or even cowboy boots is an easy everyday look. I just so happen to have this thrifted matching silk scarf which doesn’t add much warmth, but I love the extra texture with everything else. J.Crew also currently has a ton of sweaters in every bright color you can think of.

Plaid Blazers

Old Madewell blazer here’s a newer version (most of my fall blazers are from Madewell), Suede boots (similar)

The nice part about a light pair of pants for winter is they let the top and shoes really stand out. This navy striped blazer and some other plaids I like to wear usually blend in with my pants. So it’s nice when the coat has a chance to really pop.

Black Velvet and Ballet Flats

Some more velvet tops (here, here and here), Chanel flats (but a colorful pair like these or these vintage chanel are also perfect)

My top here is secondhand from a friend clothing swap that has turned into my favorite more ‘fancy’ tops to wear. Trousers with a velvet top and ballet flats is an underrated evening look in my opinion. It’s also an easy ensemble to wear from office to dinner (which I wrote more about that here).

Turtlenecks & Vests

J.Crew turtleneck, Banana Republic vest (similar), Gucci loafers

I’ve been trying to think of ways to style this linen summer vest into winter and just how it looks with a black turtleneck. I think a black or grey vest would also be perfect or even a shearling one for something really cozy.
