Cool Weather Outfit Idea: Matching Tights and Shoes

When it comes to getting dressed, I’ve always liked to keep it simple. And a lot of times I think we confuse simple with boring. Which doesn’t have to be the case. I want to be able to get dressed for work quickly and effortlessly while still feeling stylish all day. So, I’ve developed, over the years, a simple but non-boring wardrobe that doesn’t over complicate the process of getting ready in the morning.

To be able to do that, I like to play around with new ways to wear what’s in my wardrobe. How can we mix things up with what we have? And if we’re working on curating/building our closets and style, what can we add that we can really get a ton of wear from?

Which brings me to this post! The past week or so I’ve been trying out new clothing combos to add some new fun to my every day outfits. A combo that isn’t my usual trousers and top. I was going through my tights after noticing I have some fun colors I never wear. Mostly because I haven’t been sure what to wear with them and hadn’t taken the time to figure that.

J.Crew black turtleneck, Everlane black shorts, White tights, Prada flats (another white pair here and here)

Then I had the thought to match my new white flats with my white tights. And that led to my mint green tights matched with a new pair of mint flats and so on. I wanted to keep it simple here while still being appropriate for cool fall temperatures. A black turtleneck and black shorts ended up being perfect. I’m also on a shorts with tights kick which is obvious from this post haha.

Alex Mill top, The Favorite shorts, Navy tights, Ferragamo heels

The tights here look more black but they are navy. Matched with my navy block heels. I went with a pop of color although a full navy monochromatic styling would also look great. If I had a navy turtleneck, I would swap this linen button down with that. I also like the way a crisp white oxford pairs with this outfit.

Cos skirt (old but similar here and here, Madewell sweater (similar here and here), Green tights, Loeffler Randall flats

The mint green combo gave me the hardest time for pairing an outfit with while also not feeling too spring or summery. So, I went with the most fall/wintery skirt I own: this wool mini. Then paired with another quintessential autumnal brown crewneck sweater. I think by keeping the top in classic fall colors and material, it makes the mint work for the season. Plus, it adds a fun unexpected pop of color. And I’ve been loving pastels for fall. Especially light pink and mint!

If you’re looking to add more color shoes to your wardrobe, Repetto is a rainbow of flats in every color imaginable. I also like Everlane flats which come in more neutrals like navy and light pink and then some nice reds for a bright but classic color. For tights, I usually get mine from Amazon. These are the mint green ones I’m wearing which come in a ton of colors! They’re on the thicker side too and really soft.

I hope this gives you some new easy fall styling ideas! Either keep it simple with mostly monochrome, or play around with some colorful outfits. Simple doesn’t need to be boring.
