Winter Linen Styling

Linen should definitely not be forgotten about during winter time. It’s not just a good summer fabric but also a great, comfortable, and most importantly layer-able fabric for easy cold weather looks. Especially for days spent at home!

Working from home every day, it’s easy to not leave the house at all. Especially when it’s cold and grey. But even though I may not leave, I still like the illusion I might and so I like to get dressed in something stylish. I love linen outfits for these exact reasons: it’s stylish and ready to wear around the city but I won’t be uncomfortable sitting at my desk most of the day.

I’m also always trying to find ways to wear my clothes year round and not just wear things I love for a few months out of the year. So styling my linen pieces (I have quite a few!) this time of year is a great practice for this.

So, let’s talk ways to style linen for winter. One favorite layering method I like is to wear my linen tops over a turtleneck. For an all linen look, I’ll add a linen pant then wear some leather boots if I do leave the house. Otherwise it’s thick socks and slippers. For a more dressed up look, a linen trouser is perfect. You can wear to the office or at home and still be comfortable and appropriately dressed.

For wearing a linen dress, I usually do a similar formula. Turtleneck underneath but then add tights, socks, and a pair of tall or ankle boots. If you’re not in a turtleneck mood, a thick knit cardigan does the trick. Plus, easier to take on and off for temperature control. Plus a wool coat for outside activities.

A personal favorite, very versatile linen piece, is a button down. It’s layer-ability and season-less-ness is almost unmatched. It’s always comfortable and can easily go from home to office to dinner. If you haven’t noticed, I really aim for versatility in my wardrobe!

I also want to say a nice flax linen pant is also not just for summer. A pair of these looks great with a brown boot, sweaters, scarves, then a thick wool coat. If your accessories are wintery, and layers warm, a light linen pant, I think, is such a great compliment.

I went full light linen here with a white linen button up. Added a thick blanket scarf/shawl for weather appropriateness and of course a sock as that would be too cold. Also, clogs are a great alternative if it’s a bit warmer and you’re not feeling a boot!

I hope you can find some inspiration and new ways to wear your linen pieces throughout the rest of winter! Then slowly shed layers before spring arrives and breathable simple linen can shine on it’s own.
